About Us

fielding, a critically acclaimed indie folk band, have carved their own unique niche in the Southern California music scene since 2004. Featuring the songsmithing of frontman, Eric Fielding Balmer (formerly of OC band, Plankeye), pared with multi-instrumentalist, Beth Balmer, fielding's music marries traditional rock instrumentation with delicate layers of piano, organ, strings, and accordion. The result is a distinctive sound inviting listeners to travel the spectrum between the bass-driven grooves of `90s Brit-pop and the timeless melodies of Middle-American acoustic ballads. With a wide palette of sounds and textures, their sound's identity has an enticing mystique.

fielding has delivered two albums, the self titled “fielding,” and “The Voice of Us” – a bittersweet homage to Eric’s late grandmother, Wilda McGaha.  With these two collections under their belts, and multiple TV placements, the two have garnered an avid following and considerable critical praise.

In 2012, fielding laid down the first tracks on their third studio project, collaborating with CatBeach Music and producer, Bobby Hartry.  This 6-song EP, "Our Side Is An Ocean" released July 9, 2013 to great reviews with songs finding placement on American Idol and The Winner Is (2013 seasons). 

Offering a fierce return, fielding releases Rags Of Light, on March 29, 2019.
